EMMA LUNDGREN presents a new direction for colour and material innovation, explores the implications for its use in a wider design and cultural context. She started her own personal label & company in 2009, meanwhile bringing her knowledge into play in multiple industries both in physical and digital design shapes.
Emma has achieved this by understanding the complex interrelationships of 21st century production techniques, and combining them with artisanal traditions and highly individual colour combinations. Her unique aesthetic, and her vision of colour and material constructions has helped her to win numerous awards such as the Michael Treschow scholarship, for which she is currently a jury member. Emma’s characteristic signature; expressive futuristic folk inspired aesthetic has its inspirational roots from her native Scandinavia. Her work has been widely exhibited, and has garnered notable press in various publications internationally.
Emma is a graduate of the highly regarded Central St Martins and the prestigious Royal College of Art in London, covering Textile and Mixed Media Design. Following receipt of her MA degree in 2011, Emma showed her work at Stockholm Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week and London Design Week. With Emma’s passion for mixed media applications this has lead her to work on projects for H&M, John Galliano, McLaren, Nokia and Ford Motor Company. Currently leading colour and material design strategy at NIO’s (NEXTEV) innovation lab in San Francisco.
With such a diverse design background designing for fashion, textiles, consumer electronics and transportation Emma has a significant understanding of cutting-edge material, colour and surface applications across numerous disciplines. This has helped her to develop a facility for working on collaborative projects within the industry with an open-minded perspective, whilst retaining the initiative that comes from pursuing personal work. The breadth of Emma’s professional experience and her specific expertise enable her to respond to future trends and to continue to produce innovative purposeful design solutions for the present and the future.
